Important Registration Update
I hope all of you are well and staying safe. That is of the utmost importance to all of us as we move through these unprecedented times. Our goal is to keep all of you updated as we get closer to the swim season. Given the recent events of COVID-19, the league has decided not to hold any swim meets, prelims, or finals. Registration on May 16th is also cancelled and we will not be ordering new swimsuits for the team this year. We also know that your HOA board is doing all they can to open the pools by June 1st. With an open pool, we will do our best to hold morning practices while still adhering to government guidelines.
Keeping our swimmers safe is our top goal and getting swimmers in the water, although limited, is better than nothing at all. The current guidance is to social distance, which means limited numbers of swimmers in the pool. Last season we had +130 swimmers, so this will make it a bit of a challenge. We don’t have all the details for the season as of yet, but what we do know is we will not have a minnows or H20 program this season due to the high amount of interaction that is required.
Parents will not be allowed inside the pool area, so it is very important that your 5 or 6 year old is strong enough to swim the length of the pool if they are to participate on the team this season. Coaches will make an assessment the first day of practice to see if your swimmer is capable on their own. We are truly sorry we have to take this direction, but it is necessary to keep everyone safe and healthy. We clearly understand that the minnows are the future of the Wahoos, so if you feel comfortable with the one on one interaction, we will provide private lessons for all our minnows at a discounted rate with one of our amazing coaches. We will email a sign up for these lessons at a later date.
Until we have the final number of registered swimmers, we start to finalize a morning practice schedule. We will do our best to get swimmers in the pool Monday through Friday but given the situation, swimmers might only get to swim 2 or 3 times a week. Please be open and understanding to that possibility.
Again, we don’t have all the details, but if you are willing to be flexible and go with us on this evolving journey together, please register on the website by May 25.
If you or your family feels you need to sit out this season or you have a health condition that puts you at high risk, we completely understand. You will be missed and we welcome you back next season with open arms. If you are opting out and have already paid, please contact the parent reps for a refund.
As these social rules change we too will adapt… allow bigger groups, social activities, etc.
As your parent reps we welcome feedback and will do our best to accommodate everyone.
